  1. This is a special order item. There may be a 1-2 week delay in delivery. We don't normally stock the Intel i7-4790S CPU or the 10GbE adapters!
  2. This model replaces the Jupiter III RM1U PFNF9A-Q67 and Jupiter IIIB RM1U PFNF9E-Q77.
  3. Following are the main differences between the Jupiter IV and the Jupiter III:
    • The Jupiter III has about 20% or more CPU performance since it is based on the Intel Haswell i7 processor.  The Jupiter IV is based on a low-power mobile version.
    • The Jupiter IV has more network interfaces: four (4) more built-in Intel i82574L Gigabit Ethernet. Similar additional network interfaces can be added by a PCI-e x16 expansion slot.
    • The power consumption of the Jupiter IIIC is about 120W (maximum 150W), while it is about 60W (maximum 80W) for the Jupiter IV.

The 1U Server Jupiter IIIC appliance has been employed at the following network locations to protect SMB (Small and Medium Business) and Enterprise:

  1. Internet edge
  2. Corporate Headquarter
  3. Enterprise/Campus Data Center

  1. Short-Depth 1U Rackmount Case. The form factor of the 1U server is about 19 inches by 10 inches by 1.75 inches in dimensions. Weight about 13 lbs.
    • The 1U rack ears can be removed to turn into a desktop chassis. See picture!
  2. Intel Quad-Core 3.2Ghz i7-4790S.
    • Almost three times faster than the popular Intel Xeon E5607-based systems.
    • High Performance IPSec VPN without VPN Hardware Accelerator (440 Mbps AES256/155 155 Mbps 3DES).
    • Performance for UTM (Unified Threat Management) applications.
  3. Ethernet options:
    1. Six (6) Ports: Intel Gigabit Ethernet
    2. Four (4) Ports: 2 x Intel Gigabit and 2 x 10 Gigabit Ethernet
      • Two (2) built-in 1GbE: 1 x Intel i211AT and 1 x Intel i217LM
      • Two (2) Intel i82599 10GbE (Intel X520-DA2): dual DA ports or SPF+ cages
      • Please contact support@hacom.net for optional configuration of Intel X520 10G Ethernet with choices of dual DA/SFP+, RJ45, LC ports (E10G42BTDA/E10G42BT/E10G42BTFSR )
For more information, please take a look at Intel X520 10G Ethernet Product Brief.
  4. Preloaded pfSense® current Stable Release, firmware on a 8GB Industrial DOM (Disk-on-Module).
    • Optional Raid 1 (Mirrored Array of two 500GB drives) for redundancy.
  5. BIOS Console redirection capable
    • Simplifying remote access and administration
    • Eliminating the needs for keyboard and monitor in datacenter

1As measured by IPerf.
3As reported in Cisco Sales Literature and Documentation. (Cisco Router Performance data come from here.)
4Estimated from Cisco ASA 5510 iperf data. The IPerf performance of the Cisco ASA 5510 was measured and discussed in the article IPSec Performance of Cisco ASA 5510 as Measured by IPerf.
5Detail CARP configuration is discussed at http://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/Configuring_pfSense_Hardware_Redundancy_(CARP). Active-active configuration is not possible at this time.
6Active/Active configuration requires multiple security contexts (or virtual firewalls).
7Cisco ASA firewall cost is typically found on the Internet and includes the basic firewall feature set of Cisco ASA Software Release 8.2. Advanced features like security contexts and active/active high-availability may require additional licenses.
